“PK” stands for Petr Kondratiev of St. Petersburg, Russia. All models are assembled from styrene injection moldings, and are neatly painted and lettered. The 4-axle wagons have bogie-mounted European loop couplings, while the 2-axle wagons are equipped with loop couplings in a close-coupling mount with NEM box (this close-coupling mount is a bit stiff, but this has no adverse effect upon the operation of these wagons on sharp-radius curves).

The PK Models we import are of three different types: four-axle box car rebuilt with sheet metal sides; two-axle box car without brake platform; and two-axle box car with brake platform. Please see the photos below for examples of each type.

 

Experience to date indicates that I may not be able to order specific models with each order, or restock specific models previously received.  For this reason, I will post to the Red Star Comments page updated information on models received by item number, color, and description.  This way, I won’t drive my web guy Joe Zammetti crazier than he already is.

PLEASE NOTE: When I received my initial order from PK Models, I decided to replace the original plastic wheels with NEM metal wheels.  In case you haven’t noticed, it’s not easy to source NEM wheelsets in quantity here in the United States!  Last time around, I had to climb into my 1991 Toyota and drive a total of 500km to collect enough NEM wheels to refit the all the PK Models in the order.  The wheelsets were of many different profiles, and this fact attracted some negative comments from purchasers.  I’m sorry, guys, but I can not afford to retrofit PK Models with metal wheels without increasing the cost significantly – or doing away with the discounts offered at the usual rate to the usual suspects.  So, from now on, PK Models will be sold with the original plastic wheels.  Since I have quite a number of plastic wheelsets on hand, I definitely WILL be careful to replace any wheelsets which are out-of-round, etc.
